Even a single lamp shade in your living room or any other room can add to the whole ambiance. But it is critical that you make sure that you buy the right lamp and shade for your home. There are few pointers besides size, shape, color, material, etc. that you need to consider while purchasing the lamp shade for your home.
Here in this post we will discuss those pointers, these pointers will help you choose the right lampshade for your home.
Here we go……
First things first, what do you want to portray with the lamp matters the most! It means what kind of lamp you are looking for your home, is it contemporary that attracts you the most; or is it traditional which you associate much with; or something antique you are looking for; or should you want it to match with your funky style, etc. And if you are not able to come up with a specific style then you should know which style or look you wish to portray with this lamp. Once you know the general lamp style that you wish to portray, you are ready to concentrate on other details.
While you select the size of the shade, make sure there is a balance in lamp and shade sizes. It will make the lamp look neither top heavy nor bottom heavy when viewed from a certain distance.
However, there are four measurements to consider while selecting a shade:
- Top diameter (across)
- Bottom diameter (across)
- Side length (slope)
Basic guidelines to select the right size shade:
For a medium – small size traditional or antique lamp that is 20″ – 27″ tall, you will need a shade of about 9″ – 11″ side length and 16″ – 19″ bottom diameter.
While for a medium size traditional or antique lamp that is 27″ – 30″ tall, you will need a shade of about 11″ – 13″ side length and 16″ – 19″ bottom diameter.
And, large size traditional or antique lamps that are 30″ – 36″ tall, you will need a shade of about 12″ – 15″ side length and 18″ – 20″ bottom diameter.
Larger diameter lamps require larger diameter shades. For instance, for a contemporary lamp you will need to buy a shade with larger bottom diameters along with larger side length. And if you are planning to buy a more slender lamp then you will need to buy a smaller diameter shade.
Installing a multiple socket lamp won’t be easy, you will need to get it done by an experienced lighting professional only. Reputable lamp and lighting showrooms can help you with experienced lighting professionals.
